The Canton Police Department’s Administrative Division consists of one (1) Lieutenant, two (2) officers and two (2) civilian records clerks and is divided into four (4) units: Records Section, Parking Enforcement, Property and Evidence, and Code Enforcement. The Records Section handles all requests for reports, processes background checks, alcohol serving permits and taxicab permits, data entry of citations and answers calls from the public and other agencies. The Parking Enforcement officer has several responsibilities in addition to patrolling the downtown Canton area on foot while checking for parking violations. This officer also performs the duties of the Evidence and Property custodian and is responsible for the storage of all impounded property and evidence. One of the most sensitive functions of this section is safeguarding evidence such as narcotics, cash and weapons. The Code Enforcement officer works to ensure that Canton remains a safe and desirable place to live and conduct business for all residents and visitors. The primary duty of this officer is enforcing the ordinances set up by the City of Canton. Daily responsibilities include answering complaints from citizens; following up to ensure compliance with ordinances; providing feedback to citizens and issuing citations when necessary for non-compliance.
