Special Operations Divisions

The Special Operations Division of the Canton Police Department is managed by a Lieutenant and consists of three units: Traffic Section, Marine Patrol and the Criminal Investigation Section. Their main duties and responsibilities include the investigation of traffic crashes involving injury and/or fatalities. They also investigate all hit and run automobile crashes, whether they are on private property or the roadway. Additional duties include supplementing the Uniform Patrol Division and conducting specialized patrols in high crash and speeding locations. Our K-9 officer is an important part of the Special Operations Division. The primary role for our police dog is pursuing and apprehending suspects that attempt to escape law enforcement officers by tracking the suspect's scent.
